What Is Domestic Violence

The topic of Domestic Violence wears many faces. None of which are pretty. It can be found in many forms, any where, any time of the day or night. Holidays are particularly susceptible to increases in abuse. The stress is greater, finances are running thin and there is more alcohol around.

It doesn't matter who is committing the abuse or in what form it is being delivered abuse is a crime. It may be physical abuse which may or may not leave telltale signs, or verbal abuses of harsh and sering words. Both of these methods leave psychological and permanent scars upon the domestic victims and anyone else who lives in the home or is a witness to such assaults.

The mask of an abuser can be that of a father, mother, son, daughter, in-laws, grand-parents, bosses, neighbors, co-worker, boyfriend, girlfriend or someone sitting on a bus next to you. They come in all different shapes, sizes and colors. They are not of any particular religion, rich or poor or somewhere in between. They do not have any particular profession. You cannot tell an abuser by just looking at them.

      I haven't received any professional training in this arena of domestic violence yet I know way too much about this subject. How you ask? I have received on the job training. It is embarrassing to admit this because it is demeaning. How could I subject myself to such a person? How could you stay with someone who treats like you like a maggot on the back of a flea found on a heap of garbage? The answer is the abuser kills your self of everything. Self esteem, self respect, self everything.
